Take A Seat A Two Day Burlesque Chair Dance Workshop Sunday 2-3:15 pm Sept 6 & 13 Ready to take a seat? Take a Seat is a beginner-friendly, two-day workshop exploring the art of burlesque chair dance. Together we'll discover the chair as more than a prop—it's a performance partner, a place to build anticipation, reveal character, and transform the stage. Through classic chair dance vocabulary, participants will explore seated movement, transitions, poses, and playful choreography while developing greater confidence, musicality, and stage presence. We'll work with weight, balance, and relationship, learning how the chair can support dynamic movement and unforgettable moments of tease. Whether you're new to chair dance or looking to expand your burlesque practice, you'll leave with movement vocabulary and creative tools you can return to in rehearsal and performance. By the end of the workshop, you'll: Learn foundational burlesque chair dance technique. Explore seated movement, transitions, and dynamic stage pictures. Develop greater confidence moving with and around the chair. Strengthen your musicality and stage presence. Learn a short chair dance combination you can continue exploring beyond the workshop. No prior burlesque or dance experience is required. All bodies are welcome. Suede or rubber-soled shoes or heels are encouraged but not required. Cost a barrier? Apply at: www.houseofthelorde.com/scholarship About Po'Chop Jenn Freeman, who also performs as Po'Chop, is an interdisciplinary artist who weaves burlesque, drag, storytelling, and movement into worlds that illuminate and interrogate Black queer life. They are the co-founder of House of the Lorde, co-producer of Notes on Masculinity, and creator of The Black Burlesque Directory. Their work has been supported by United States Artists, Dance/USA, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Urban Bush Women, and Chicago Dancemakers Forum. They have been named one of the Top 50 Most Influential Burlesque Artists by 21st Century Burlesque Magazine. Po'Chop has taught burlesque and embodiment practices to countless dancers, performers, and first-timers across Chicago and beyond.
