About the event
The Reading Room is a casual, welcoming, and creative gathering dedicated to studying the works of Black feminist writers and thinkers. Each month, we read together, sit with big ideas, and open space for conversation, reflection, and connection.
For this gathering, under the guidance of Jasma Jones, we’ll read Barbara J. Love’s Developing a Liberatory Consciousness and create Black feminist mind maps that capture our unique connections to the text. Through the quotes, questions, reflections, and ideas that emerge while reading, we’ll map what resonates, what challenges us, and what’s bubbling up.
Created in community, these mind maps offer another way to deepen our understanding of Black feminist texts and consider how they inform our own praxis. They can also become starting points for essays, personal reflections, creative work, community projects, campaigns, and more.
No preparation or writing experience is necessary.
Photocopies of the text and mind-mapping materials will be provided.
