House of the Lorde
feb 18 2021 - feb 18 2022
a year of community building, learning, listening and growing towards sustainability
SINCE OUR OPENING & space blessing WE'VE HOSTED:
10 of our monthly Black feminist study groups. These casuals gatherings have offered us time to read & discuss essays from Lorde's Sister Outsider, Alexis Pauline Gumb's Undrowned and Tricia Hersey's Rest is Resistance.
Our Reading Room held in May was collaboratively presented alongside NYC based artist Nia Witherspoon as apart of their Priestess of Twerk project. After reading a portion of "Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power" Nia and collaborator Jillian Walker guided guests into a dream chamber. An offering to rest and communion with our ancestors.
We ended and began our calendar year with Tricia Hersey's irresistible manifesto Rest is Resistance. Just this past Thursday we gathered for our second Reading Room of 2023 and was joined virtually by the nap bishop herself.
burlesque & drag Classes
Our burlesque and drag classes are a space for participants to tend to their erotic and grow closer to their deepest selves. These classes have been ripe with joy and vulnerability.
