Chicago Burlesque Classes | In the Works Wednesdays w/ Po'Chop Sept 10 | 6:30 - 7:45 pm House of the Lorde | 2233 S. Throop Suite 502 Maximum: 12 Participants | Minimum: 5 Participants Po'ography: Intentional Movement Join Po'Chop for a choreography-based workshop that draws from over 15 years of experience creating impactful burlesque and drag king acts. Po'Chop will guide you through a captivating combination, infused with their signature style that blends storytelling, movement, and burlesque. This workshop invites you to connect deeply with your body and discover what part of yourself is yearning to be celebrated, revealing that through movement. Whether you're a seasoned performer or new to burlesque/drag, you’ll leave with a routine that reflects your unique expression. The class will begin with a warm-up, followed by learning the choreography. This supportive, beginner-friendly class welcomes all identities, skill levels, and abilities. Accommodations and modifications are available to ensure everyone can participate fully. Suede or rubber bottom heels/shoes encouraged but not necessary. Masks must be worn. Two scholarship slots per class are reserved for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and Queer individuals who may face financial barriers. About Po'Chop Jenn Freeman is an interdisciplinary artist who creates on the homeland of the Council of the Three Fires: The Odawa, Council of the Three Fires: The Odawa, Ojibwe and Potawatomi Nations; as well as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Sauk and Meskwaki; the Kiikaapoi, Peoria, and the Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux) Nations. Freeman, also known as Po’Chop, weaves dance, storytelling, drag and striptease together to create experiences that illuminate Black queer life. She is a co-founder of House of the Lorde, a multi-functional space rooted in Black Feminist praxis, the co-producer of the adored Notes on Masculinity, a drag king centered cabaret and creator of The Black Burlesque Directory, an archive of Black burlesque performers across the world. Freeman has collaborated with Jamila Woods, Anna Martine Whitehead and VAM Studio. Her work has been supported by Foundation of Contemporary Art, DANCE/USA, Urban Bush Women, United States Artists and Chicago Dancemakers Forum.
