Make & Shake: A DIY Shimmy Belt Workshop Chicago Burlesque Class Wednesday, December 10 | 6:30–7:45 PM House of the Lorde – 2233 S. Throop St, Suite 502 Join us for a hands-on shimmy belt workshop! In this joyful, beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn how to construct and embellish your own shimmy belt, the perfect accessory to accentuate your hips and amplify your movement. This class is perfect for those with sewing experience or none at all. We’ll cover everything from threading a needle to selecting elastics and trims, adding fringe, and sewing on closures (snaps or hooks). You’ll walk away with a shimmy belt that’s stunning, functional, and uniquely yours. Whether you’re a seasoned performer, a burlesque beginner, or simply drawn to the joy of adornment, this workshop invites you to play, create, and celebrate your body in motion. All materials provided. No experience necessary. All bodies, all genders, and all levels of craftiness are welcome. Scholarships Two scholarship slots are reserved per session to support Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and Queer folks for whom finances are a barrier. About Po’Chop Jenn Freeman, also known as Po’Chop, is an interdisciplinary artist weaving dance, storytelling, drag, and striptease to illuminate Black queer life. Co-founder of House of the Lorde, Freeman’s work is rooted in Black Feminist praxis and has been supported by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Urban Bush Women, and Chicago Dancemakers Forum.
