Class Details
Chicago Burlesque Class Uses of the Erotic: Burlesque as Power 2 Day Workshop Sundays | January 11 & 18 | 3:30 - 4:45 pm Uses of the Erotic: Burlesque as Power is a two-part workshop that uses the writing of Audre Lorde as a guide to deepen your relationship to burlesque and the self. Through Lorde’s seminal essay Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power, we ask: What are you revealing—and why? Part I: The Reading Room We begin in collective study. Participants will gather to read aloud and discuss Lorde’s essay in a casual, unacademic space. You’re invited to come as you are, to lounge, stretch, dance, sleep, listen, read, or journal, as Lorde’s words move through and among us. Part II: Movement Exploration After allowing the text to marinate, we’ll return to process Lorde’s writing through movement. Class begins with a guided warm-up, followed by a facilitated exploration rooted in embodiment, play, and discovery. Expect time that is messy, generative, and tender, an invitation to get closer to your deepest sense of self. Participants are encouraged to come eager and curious to explore, play, and expand their notions of self-love, joy, pleasure, and confidence. Copies of the text provided Please bring a journal and writing utensil All bodies and levels of experience welcome
