Chicago Drag King Class 6 Week Session | $175 Sundays 3:30-4:30 PM | December 1 - January 19 (No Class on Dec 22 & 29) House of the Lorde | 2233 S. Throop St Suite 502 Maximum: 15 Participants | Minimum 7 Participants Step into your kingly power with King in the Making, a six-week series with legendary performer Po'Chop, designed to guide you through the foundations of drag king artistry. This immersive course equips you with the essential skills, from character creation to stage presence, helping you craft a compelling drag king persona. Each week, we’ll delve into a new aspect of drag performance: Week 1: Embodying a Persona – Explore character creation and find the essence of your drag king. Week 2: Movement & Physicality – Develop posture, gestures, and movements to bring your character to life. Week 3: Lip Sync – Refine the art of lip syncing to captivate your audience. Week 4: Visual Transformation (Makeup) – Learn foundational makeup techniques for masculine and exaggerated features. Week 5: Costume & Styling – Create a signature look with costuming tips and styling advice. Week 6: Putting It All Together – Combine everything you’ve learned for a final performance showcase. This supportive, beginner-friendly class is open to all identities, skill levels, and abilities. Accommodations and modifications are available to ensure everyone can participate fully. Masks will be worn for the first week, and antigen tests will be provided for subsequent classes. Wear comfortable clothing to move in, and bring a journal for capturing insights as you step into your powerful new persona! Two scholarship slots per class are reserved to accommodate Black, Indigenous, People of Color and Queer folks who want to enroll in class but money is a barrier.
