Chicago Burlesque Classes 4-Week Session | $149 Mondays | 6:30 – 7:45 PM September 1 – September 22 House of the Lorde | 2233 S. Throop, Suite 502 Maximum: 15 Participants | Minimum: 5 Participants Prerequisite: All Intro to Burlesque Sessions (4) Burlesque II: Embody the Basics A 4-week class to integrate, refine, and embody the foundational elements of burlesque through a full routine. This next-level offering is for those who have completed all four Intro to Burlesque sessions, Shimmy & Shake, Arms & Legs, Bumps & Grinds, and Stillness and are ready to weave it all together. In this 4-week class, we’ll build a complete burlesque routine that honors your unique rhythm, confidence, and voice. With guidance from Po’Chop, you’ll revisit foundational techniques while deepening your connection to musicality, timing, and storytelling through striptease. Each week builds toward a finished piece, with a focus on intention, presence, and embodied repetition. What to expect: Grounding warm-ups, Technique refreshers (shimmies, isolations, stillness, gesture), Full routine choreography broken down over time and reflection prompts through journaling What to Bring: Comfortable clothing Suede or rubber-bottom shoes or heels (optional) A journal Gloves or a robe (optional) Scholarships: Two scholarship slots are available for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and Queer individuals for whom finances are a barrier. About Po'Chop Jenn Freeman (Po’Chop) is an interdisciplinary artist creating on the homeland of the Council of the Three Fires: the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations, as well as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Sauk and Meskwaki, Kiikaapoi, Peoria, and Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux) Nations. Freeman weaves dance, storytelling, drag, and striptease into ritualized experiences that illuminate Black queer life. She is the co-founder of House of the Lorde, a multi-functional artist space rooted in Black feminist praxis; co-producer of Notes on Masculinity, a drag king-centered cabaret; and creator of the Black Burlesque Directory, an archive uplifting Black burlesque performers around the world. Freeman has collaborated with artists including Jamila Woods, Anna Martine Whitehead, and VAM Studio.
